The NBA season is still pretty far off, but in the meantime we’ve got some interesting off-season storylines--not to mention USA Basketball--to keep us occupied. That said, let’s take our daily look around the league and see what some of the top players out there are up to right now.

USA-Brazil Wrap-Up: In their World Cup tune-up against Brazil last night, the USA emerged victorious 95-78. Perhaps the bigger story here was the return of Derrick Rose, who looked pretty darn good in his return to his home court.
Rose displayed the same kind of explosiveness that was a hallmark of his game prior to his two knee injuries, and performed to cheers from the hometown crowd the whole evening. Teammate Anthony Davis had a great night as well, posting a total of 20 points.
Brazil kept things close for most of the game, cutting the USA’s lead to five heading into the fourth quarter. Tiago Splitter was the high man there, with 16 points.

NBA News: Player News and Updates for 8/17/14

George Status: It’s been over two weeks now since Pacers star Paul George sustained an ugly-looking compound fracture in his right leg, and even with a long road to recovery in front of him, he’s staying hopeful.
George made some comments concerning his injury late last week, saying that it’s difficult for him not to be active, and that right now all he can do is lie down, sleep and watch TV.
On the road ahead, he said he hopes to be able to play this season, even though doctors have given him a one-year timetable for his recovery.
George is expected to make a full recovery at this point, but he’ll have to live with pins in his knee and ankle, which stabilize a rod in his leg. We’ll bring you updates as he completes each stage of his rehab.

Livingston Status: We haven’t had a chance to talk about this one just yet, so let’s take a moment to visit with the Warriors’ Shaun Livingston and see what his status is for the immediate future.
Late last week, Golden State announced that Livingston had undergone arthroscopic surgery on the big toe of his right foot, and that the recovery timetable would be 6-8 weeks. His toe will be in a splint for the first 21 days or so.
Livingston inked a three-year contract with the Warriors last month. The deal is worth $16 million in total.
