NBA Player Updates 8/18: News From Around the League, Off-Season Schedule and More
August 18, 2014
We’re still over a month away from the NBA preseason, but there’s quite a bit to keep us occupied in the meantime. We’re less than a week from the trade of the year (Cleveland-Minnesota), and in the days leading up to that we’ll have plenty to talk about. That said, let’s take our daily glance around the league and check out some of the notable happenings out there right now. Here’s the latest.
Marion Joining Cavaliers: The big news from yesterday’s NBA action concerned veteran free agent forward Shawn Marion. According to reports that emerged during the afternoon, he’ll be joining up with the Cavaliers to further stack their star-rich roster.
Due to salary cap constraints, Marion will have to play for the veteran minimum.
With Marion now on board, Cleveland adds another shooter and a seasoned vet with valuable postseason experience to their stable.
Marion has 103 career playoff games under his belt and has posted averages of 15.8 points and 9.0 rebounds during his NBA career.

Williams Add: We haven’t been able to address this one just yet, so let’s head down to South Beach and check out the Reggie Williams signing. The Heat reportedly inked him to a deal last week, but the terms of the contract were not readily available due to a franchise policy.
Williams played only there games in Oklahoma City last year, but has played in 180 career games during his tenure. He spent some time in the D-League last season and also in the Philippine Basketball Association.
Carter-Williams Update: It’s been a while since we’ve checked in on the status of second-year man Michael Carter-Williams, so let’s see how he’s doing. The reigning Rookie of the Year had surgery to fix a tear in his shoulder after the 76ers’ season came to an end and has been healing up this off-season.
Carter-Williams isn’t quite back to full health just yet, but should be just fine by the time camp begins in late September. He’s not yet cleared to scrimmage, but is doing some workouts and shooting.
