2014 NBA Season
The Line: See the Latest Odds
Last season, the Boston Celtics missed the playoffs for the first time since 2006 and can only hope this year will be different under Brad Stevens. Spoiler alert: Not much is going to change this season.
Here is your 2014 Boston Celtics NBA preview.

Key Additions: Marcus Smart, Tyler Zeller, Marcus Thornton
Key Losses: Kris Humphries
Biggest Strength: The Boston Celtics biggest strength would be at the guard position, as there’s some above-average talent here. Everybody knows the return of Rajon Rondo and while he’s still in a Boston uniform, he gives the Celtics a fighting chance to compete at a high level. But last season Avery Bradley had possibly the best season of his young career and gives Boston a solid option at the two guard spot, as he averaged more than 14 points. The Celtics also drafted Marcus Smart out of Oklahoma State, and while he is set to be Boston’s backup point guard, he has the size of a shooting guard. Smart reminds me of a bigger version of Dwayne Wade, and he could end up being a steal for the Celtics. If there’s one positive thing for Celtics fans, it’d have to be the guard position and the potential it brings to the table this season.
Biggest Weakness: There’s no leadership on this Boston Celtics team. Right now the Celtics don’t feel like a team, just a bunch of thrown together players wearing the same uniform. Boston doesn’t have a dominant player who is leading the charge and putting the team on his back in hopes of turning things around. That guy is supposed to be Rajon Rondo, but he’s likely going to be traded before next year and isn’t exactly a leader to begin with. To make matters worse the Celtics are being coached by second-year coach Brad Stevens, who isn’t much older than most of his players at 37. Until the Celtics develop some leadership, this team isn’t going very far.
Expectations: This is going to be another rebuilding year for the Boston Celtics, as there isn’t a lot to write home about. The best player in Rondo won’t be around very long and everybody else is either over the hill or wouldn’t be starting on majority of the other teams in the NBA. Long story short, it’s going to be another long season for Boston Celtics fans.
