NBA Player Updates 9/18: News From Around the League, Off-Season Schedule and More
September 18, 2014
With each passing day, the new NBA season is creeping closer and closer. As we progress through the month, we’ll be seeing a lot of interesting storylines and hearing plenty of news, so with that said let’s take our daily look around the league and see what’s going on out there this morning.
New Orleans got some good news recently on a pair of their guards. Both Eric Gordon and Jrue Holiday have been cleared for contact within the past week, and they’re both ready to hit training camp at 100 percent.
Gordon is coming off season-ending knee surgery this past April, and Holiday had his surgery in January. Neither will be limited and should hit the ground running as the season begins.

Over in Los Angeles, Lakers forward Xavier Henry is totally recovered from his wrist surgery this off-season, according to sources close to the team. He’s still got a little way to go before he’s 100 percent, however, due to an issue with his right knee.
It remains to be seen if Henry will be ready for camp or not, but he’s been able to take part in basketball activites already. Regardless, he should be fine for the regular season.
Brooklyn center Brook Lopez shed 15 pounds this off-season and is coming into 2014-15 much lighter. He’s had numerous foot issues over the past couple of years, and this should help ease the burden as the season progresses.
As of right now, he’s not expected to be on any kind of limitation in minutes during the season.
How will the Bulls’ Jimmy Butler look this year? Well, there’s quite a bit of optimism surrounding him in Chicago, and he should have all the tools needed for him to succeed.
Butler was shooting at a 43.7 percent clip before being sidelined by a toe injury last year, and returned to mixed results on the floor. He should have a better team around him this year, however, and his numbers will likely rise accordingly.
With Pau Gasol, Doug McDermott and Derrick Rose all in the mix this season, Butler should see an increase in his efficiency and effectiveness during the 2014-15 campaign. The Bulls will definitely be in the mix in the East.
