NBA Player Updates 9/28: News From Around the League, Off-Season Schedule and More
September 28, 2014
There’s just a little over four weeks left before the NBA season gets started, and the newsfeed around the league continues to expand with each passing day. With that in mind, let’s take our daily look around the league and see which players are making headlines out there.
Late last week, Celtics guard Rajon Rondo underwent surgery on his hand to repair a left metacarpal fracture. He apparently hurt himself after falling down at home on Thursday, and will now be out of commission for the next 6-8 weeks. The Celtics will address the media tomorrow and go over the details of Rondo’s condition.

This weekend, Heat forward Danny Granger revealed that he’d undergone arthroscopic surgery on his left knee this July, but by all indications he should be just fine for the regular season.
The team will be taking things slow with Granger in the early-going especially, treating him in much the same way they did Dwyane Wade.
Speaking of Wade, he’s set a pretty ambitious goal for himself this season. He recently reported that he wants to play in a minimum of 75 games during this upcoming campaign. Considering his recent injury troubles, that number would be a welcome participation rate for the Heat.
Wade missed out on 28 games last year as the team attempted to keep him fresh for a postseason run, which ended in defeat in the Finals.
Things will be slightly different this season, however, as Wade will have a greater load to carry with no LeBron James in the picture. We’ll have to wait and see how things pan out.
In other maintenance news, the Knicks are going to be resting forward Amar’e Stoudemire as needed this season in an effort to keep him healthy. He played in 65 games last season, with a minutes average of 22.6.
It’s looking like new coach Derek Fisher will take things very cautiously with his talented veteran.
