NBA Player Updates 9/29: News From Around the League, Off-Season Schedule and More
September 29, 2014
We’ve got just a few days left until preseason begins in the NBA, and there’s plenty of news to keep on top of in the meantime. With that in mind, let’s take our daily look around the league and see which players are making headlines out there. Here’s the latest.
This weekend we learned that Cavs center Brendan Haywood has been cleared by the team’s doctors for full participation in training camp. He missed out last year due to a broken foot, but the 2014-15 campaign should be a different story. Expect the team to ease him into action at first, but if all goes well he’ll have no limitations.

We got a timeframe on New Orleans guard Tyreke Evans this weekend. He’s going to be out for 3-5 weeks thanks to a strained right hamstring. He reportedly hurt himself during a pickup basketball game a week or two ago, which makes it something of a freak injury.
In addition to this hamstring injury, Evans is also coming off arthroscopic surgery in his knee this past May. We’ll keep you posted as to his status for the season.
The Lakers’ Xavier Henry won’t be ready for training camp, according to sources close to the team. He’s still getting his right knee up to 100 percent (he had surgery on it), but his wrist is reportedly healthy after that procedure. His preseason status is questionable at this time.
Patty Mills went under the knife to fix his torn rotator cuff this off-season, and he’s attempting to come back to the floor in January at some point.
That’s good news in the big picture, actually. Mills’ initial estimates had him returning in May, making this a solid upgrade. He’s coming off 10.2 a PPG average in the Spurs’ most recent championship season.
The Sixers’ Nerlens Noel isn’t expected to have any limitations placed on him by the team’s doctors this season, according to sources close to the team. He’s coming off a lost year in Kentucky after a torn ACL.
