Here we will give a quick rundown of the 2014 Los Angeles Lakers win total that was set at 31.5 games.
In order for the Lakers to surpass this win total, they’d have to win five more games than they did a year ago. You have to ask yourself if the addition of Carlos Boozer, drafting of Julius Randle and return of Kobe Bryant is worth five games.

There’s no doubt that Kobe is going to do everything in his power to keep the Lakers competitive and isn’t going to tolerate losing but what does he have left in the tank at the age of 36? I like the addition of Boozer and think he’ll play with a chip on his shoulder after stinking it up last season with the Chicago Bulls. Julius Randle is a man-child and has a chance to win Rookie of the Year, but he’s still a wet-behind-the-ear kid at 19 years old and will experience growing pains.
Other than those three guys and the return of Nick Young and signing of Jeremy Lin, the Lakers don’t have a ton to offer. The Lakers aren’t a playoff team and lack any type of depth to even consider them being a dark horse playoff team.
The Lakers are going to have their work cut out for them, especially in a loaded Western Conference which isn’t kind to them with three of their first four games being against the Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Clippers and Golden State Warriors. In order for the Los Angeles Lakers to be significantly better than they were a year ago, Kobe Bryant has going to have to drink from the fountain of youth, and some key contribution from Steve Nash wouldn’t hurt.
I know, tough to see either happening at the level needed.
Anyway, as far as the bet is concerned, I’ll go ahead and take my chances on the over if I was putting money down on this total. We’re not asking for a drastic improvement from a year ago, just five games, which even an aged Kobe is capable of providing himself with a few 35-40 point performances.
If there’s one thing we know about Kobe, it’s that he doesn’t handle losing very well and you can bet he’s going to have his guys ready to play better than even they think they’re capable of playing.
It’s going to be close, but the over should hit by a couple of games.
