NBA Player Updates 10/6: News From Around the League, Off-Season Schedule and More
October 6, 2014
With a full weekend of NBA preseason action behind us, it really feels like the 2014-15 season is at hand. We’ve got plenty of developments to keep track of right now, so with that in mind let’s take a closer look around the league and see which players everyone is talking about. Here’s the latest.
After Pelicans forward Anthony Davis jammed his finger early in the team’s preseason opener on Saturday, there was some concern that he’d suffered a significant injury since the team kept him out of action the rest of the way.
Those fears proved to be unfounded, however, as X-rays on Davis’ finger were negative and it was revealed that he’d only been held out as a precaution. His injury isn’t expected to hinder him as the schedule picks up tonight against the Hawks.

Sixers fans will want to keep close tabs on guard Tony Wroten this season. According to sources close to the team, his main off-season focus was on decreasing his turnover ratio by making better decisions with the ball.
Wroten posted 2.8 turnovers per game last season, along with 13.0 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.0 assists in each appearance. We’ll have to wait and see if all that hard work pays off.
We got a good look at the new-look Cavaliers yesterday after their big win over Maccabi Tel Aviv. LeBron James was playing his first official game as a Cav since back in 2010, and even though this was just an exhibition, the anticipation was running high.
James and company cruised in this one, eventually ending up with a 107-80 victory. Every Cleveland starter finished in double-digit scoring--except for Kevin Love, who made up for it with 11 rebounds and four assists (he scored eight points on 2-of-6 shooting from the field.
Kyrie Irving led the team with 16 points and also added five assists and a rebound. Anderson Varejao mopped up off the bench and dominated the glass with 15 boards all together.
Overall it was a nice first outing for the new-look Cleveland squad, and a tantalizing glimpse of what could possibly be on the horizon.
