The Boston Celtics open their 2014-15 preseason campaign with a visit from the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday night.
After years of sustained success, the Boston Celtics are well and truly in the midst of a rebuild, which figures to be in full swing again this season. After winning just 25 games during their 2013-14 campaign, which was 16 less than the season before, things figure to be just as hard for this inexperienced Celtics squad once again. Boston will also be without point guard Rajon Rondo, who missed most of last season recovering from an ACL injury, for the first couple of weeks of the regular season after suffering a broken hand during a fall at home last month. Even with Rondo, who figures to be at the center of trade talks all season long, the Celtics ceiling is pretty low. Could Boston surprise people and sneak into the playoffs? Sure, there are always one or two teams that do it every season, but it looks unlikely for the Mean Green.

Talking about teams that figure to struggle this season, look no further than the Philadelphia 76ers, who are taking the term ‘tanking’ to another level. While they haven’t come out and publically said it, it’s pretty clear that the 76ers have no intentions of being good this season, or anytime soon for that matter. Philly won just the 19 games last season (which included a 27-game losing streak) and are predicted to win even less this time around, with their regular season win total set at just 16.5 games. While they do have some talent on the roster in the reigning rookie of the year in Michael Cater-Williams and big man Nerlens Noel, who missed all of last season through injury, that’s about where it stops for this this super young Philadelphia squad.
There's not too many veteran players for either the Celtics or 76ers in this one, so we should see a pretty entertaining game tonight. Most of the games in preseason thus far have been pretty low scoring, so the under looks pretty tempting here. However, I'm going with Philly and the points because I don't think Boston really cares about winning this game...
