The new look Miami Heat open up preseason play with a visit from the Orlando Magic on Tuesday night.
I’m not sure how I feel about this Miami Heat squad this season. In case you’ve been living under a rock, you would know that LeBron James turned his back on Miami after four straight finals appearances and two championships too boot. That leaves Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh left to lead the way, how far they those two can take the Heat this season remains to be seen. I for one don’t think the Heat will go very far, especially if Wade is the same player we’ve seen for the last two years. I expect Bosh to be close to a 20-10 player after years of being the third banana, but I’m still not sure how far that gets you. The Heat are in a tough division and it wouldn’t at all surprise me to see them finish behind the likes of Washington, Charlotte and Atlanta. How Miami are favorites to win the Southeast Division is a little baffling to me.

As for the Orlando Magic, they’re the one team in the Southeast that I don’t see finishing higher than Miami, but that’s not to say they don’t have a talented young squad. In fact, I think the Magic have one of the better young rosters in the entire league and while they will indeed suck again this season, the future looks very bright. With the arrival of rookie point guard Elfrid Payton, who I think has an outside chance to take out Rookie of the Year honours, Victor Oladipo can slide over to his natural position of shooting guard, which should see his game flourish. Add in a host of other young players such as fourth overall pick Aaron Gordon and up-and-coming Center Nikola Vucevic and you have the makings of a solid foundation moving forward.
With a much younger team, I would expect more of Orlando better players on the floor tonight more so than Miami's. Seven points is just too much in my eyes...
Dan's Pick: Orlando +7
