The Memphis Grizzlies and Houston Rockets play a preseason game Thursday night at the Toyota Center.
This is a back-to-back game for the Memphis Grizzlies, as they suffered a comeback loss to the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday. The Grizzlies played nearly their entire roster and Jon Leuer was the only player with double-digit points, as he led the way with 11. Overall, the Memphis Grizzlies shot 41 percent from the field and 25 percent from three. Those offensive struggles aren’t what Grizzlies’ fans want to see, as it’s what has prevented them from taking that next step in the Western Conference for quite some time. Patrick Christopher made two of the Grizz three deep balls, and his range could earn him a spot on the roster if he’s able to keep it up. The Memphis Grizzlies have to continue to use this preseason as time to find some scoring threats because they won’t get far without it.

The Houston Rockets defeated the Dallas Mavericks in their first preseason game on Tuesday, 111-108. The Rockets did what the Rockets do by shooting 46.2 percent from the field and knocking down 10 threes to comeback in the second half. Donatas Motiejunas led the way with 18 points off the bench, while Trevor Ariza and James Harden combined for 29 points in limited action. The Rockets have their pace down and seem to know what they want to do on the offensive end even this early in the preseason. However, Houston has to trim down its 23 turnovers if it hopes to turn the corner as one of the elite teams in the West. Nick Johnson, who took only three shots, has to be more aggressive and showcase his skills if he’s going to have a key role on this roster.
We have a Memphis team that struggles mightily to put the ball in the hoop and a Houston team that usually shoots lights out in its sleep. Even in a preseason game this one could get ugly.
