The Portland Trail Blazers look for payback as they host the Utah Jazz on Thursday night.
Wagering on any type of preseason sport if always fraught with danger, but I was pretty confident that the Utah Jazz could get the job done against the visiting Portland Trail Blazers last night and that they did, cruising to an easy 92-73 victory. Just as I thought, the Trail Blazers starters saw limited minutes as no one played over 20. On the other hand, Trey Bruke, Alec Burks and Gordon Hayward all saw over 27 minutes of action as each Utah starter finished the game in double-digit scoring. In fact, four of the five starters all shot 4-10 from the field.

The Jazz also got good contribution from their bench as everyone scored four points or more bar Jeremy Evans, while only six of 11 players scored for Portland’s bench. Does it mean anything? Of course not. It’s the first game of the preseason. Having said that, I do think the Jazz will be pretty feisty this season, especially at home. They have got a solid starting unit and new coach in Quinn Snyder. It’s just a shame they are playing in a loaded Western Conference.
I’m not really sure how this one plays out. There’s no doubt the Trail Blazers will be looking for a better showing against the Jazz tonight. But will there starters see extended minutes? Will see what the line is then make the call….
While you would expect a better performance by Portland tonight, I'm not sure they should be favoured by 6.5 against a Utah team that will play a lot of good young players.
