The Los Angeles Lakers and the Utah Jazz face off on Thursday at the Honda Center in NBA preseason action.
The Los Angeles Lakers are 1-2 this preseason as after starting with a win they have lost their last two games. The Lakers are coming off of a loss on Sunday to Golden State so at the very worst they should be well rested. Kobe Bryant is the story for LA once again this season as there are question marks if he can return to form following his injury and is he still one of the top few players in the NBA. Kobe scored just six points in 24 minutes on Sunday going 3 of 13 from the field while dishing out five assists and gathering four steals. The Lakers have plenty of new faces as Carlos Boozer comes over from the Bulls where he never quite lived up to expectations. Julius Randle got 19 minutes on Sunday coming off of the bench and scoring four points while Keith Appling and Jabari Brown got just three minutes each. The injuries are already mounting for the Lakers with Ryan Kelly, Xavier Henry, and Nick Young all dinged up and Jeremy Lin didn’t see action in the last game.
USA TODAY Sports
The Utah Jazz are off to a 3-0 start to the preseason as they are very much a work in progress. The Jazz are coming off of a big win on Monday against the Clippers and while it was preseason it was still a nice win over a quality team. Trey Burke looks to be still getting better and he is coming off of a 16 point performance on Monday while Derrick Favors scored 15. The youth movement is on in Utah and Dante Exum scored 11 points in 22 minutes taking just five shots and Gordon Heyward seems to always be a target in trade talks. Utah isn’t ready to contend but they are ready to start playing more competitively.
Los Angeles is 0-4-1 against the spread in their last five home games and 0-3-1 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover the point spread. Utah is 0-3-1 against the spread following a game that they covered the point spread and 1-4 against the spread in their last five meetings with the Lakers.
I beleive there is enough talent for the Lakers to win this season but I don't see it coming together yet so I am going to take the Jazz with the points.
