The San Antonio Spurs and Phoenix Suns will play a Thursday preseason game at the US Airways Center.
This will be the first time the San Antonio Spurs play an NBA team in the preseason, as they split their first two matches against international teams. The Spurs have shot better than 47 percent from the field in both contests, but a combined 41 turnovers is enough to make Gregg PopoVich go insane. Tony Parker has scored a combined 50 points in the two games, while Tim Duncan has racked up a combined 68 minutes. With the way the Spurs usually watch their veterans minutes, I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of their starters didn’t play a much in this matchup. Rookie Kyle Anderson had a solid debut in the Spurs most recent game, shooting 3-5 from the field and dishing out two assists. The San Antonio Spurs are one of a few teams that doesn’t have to work on much during the preseason.
USA TODAY Sports
The Phoenix Suns are 2-1 in the preseason and will play their third home game. It’s quite clear what the Suns want to do offensively, as they’ve shot 56 threes in their last two games. It seems like everybody on the Suns is pulling up from deep, including Anthony Tolliver who is 6-17 from long range in his last two contests. Rookie T.J. Warren has seemed to have found his rhythm, as he’s 8-15 from the field in his last two games and has grabbed eight rebounds. Goran Dragic has scored 12 points in each of his last two games and seems to be getting closer to regular season form. Look for Marcus Morris to be a little more aggressive in this matchup after going 0-2 from the field in 12 minutes in his last game.
Even in the preseason it's hard to turn down the Spurs and the points. That's the direction I'm going.
