The Portland Trail Blazers and Sacramento Kings play Friday night at the Sleep Train Arena.
The Portland Trail Blazers pulled away from the Oklahoma City Thunder in their season opener by winning, 106-89. The Trail Blazers played a complete game by shooting 44.8 percent from the field and turning the ball over only 10 times. LaMarcus Aldridge was nearly unstoppable by shooting 10-19 from the field and Wesley Matthews continued his hot streak from the playoffs by scoring 22 points in 35 minutes. The Trail Blazers also have to feel good that they were able to win despite their star point guard Damian Lillard shooting just 3-10 from the field. You can expect Lillard to be a lot more aggressive and efficient in this matchup. The Portland Trail Blazers are a dangerous basketball team that will have the chance to prove themselves with a difficult first couple of weeks to the season.
USA TODAY Sports
The Sacramento Kings were beat down in their season opener against the Golden State Warriors, 95-77. The Kings shot just 30.8 percent from the field, as DeMarcus Cousins, Rudy Gay and Darren Collison were the only three players to score double-digit points. In fact, Ben McLemore and Jason Thompson scored a combined two points and turned the ball over six times in 47 minutes. I mentioned in my power rankings that the Sacramento Kings were just a player or two away from competing at a high level in the West, but I may have to change that if this is the way they’re going to play. Despite being bange up, Nik Stauskas showed some of his potential off the bench by knocking down two threes and scoring nine points. This game should give us a better idea of where the Kings are at.
The Trail Blazers are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 road games and 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games overall. The Kings are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 home games and 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 vs. NBA Northwest. The Trail Blazers are 8-3 ATS in the last 11 meetings in Sacramento.
With the way the Kings shot the ball in the season opener, you have to be considering the under in this spot. The under holds even more weight when you consider its hit 21 times in the last 28 games these two teams have met. I’ll take my chances with the under the projected total.
