The Toronto Raptors and Orlando Magic play Saturday night at the Amway Center.
The Toronto Raptors won their season opener against the Atlanta Hawks, 109-102. Despite allowing the Hawks to shoot 50 percent from the field, the Raptors only turned the ball over nine times and grabbed 48 rebounds in the victory. Jonas Valanciunas led the Raptors with 17 points, while Patrick Patterson and Greivis Vasquez combined for 22 points off the bench. The Raptors have to feel even better about their performance considering they were able to win despite Kyle Lowry shooting just 3-11 from the field. The Toronto Raptors played solid basketball and shared the ball beautifully with 26 assists on 37 made baskets. Greg Stiemsma remains questionable for this game with an ankle injury. The Raptors have split their last 10 road games dating back to last season.
USA TODAY Sports
As expected, the Orlando Magic have gotten off to an 0-2 start and have allowed 100-plus points in both games. The Magic are allowing teams to shoot 36.7 percent from downtown and 44.2 percent from the field. With the lack of proven weapons the Magic have offensively, they’re going to have to play better of the defensive side. Tobias Harris leads the Magic with 19.5 points per game and is averaging six rebounds, while Nikola Vucevic is scoring 19 points per game and grabbing 17.5 rebounds. Rookie Elfrid Payton has picked up seven assists in each of his first two games. Kyle O'Quinn is questionable for this game with an ankle injury. Despite the losses, the Orlando Magic have shown some promise early on and just need a little more help to get themselves in the win column.
The Raptors are 5-2-2 ATS in their last 9 games playing on 2 days rest and 3-9-2 ATS in their last 14 games following a S.U. win. The Magic are 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 vs. NBA Atlantic and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games overall. The Raptors are 3-0-1 ATS in the last 4 meetings in Orlando.
I like what the Orlando Magic have shown out of the gate, but the Toronto Raptors are one of the better teams in the East and were a covering machine last season. With a couple of days off, the Raptors should have little trouble covering this number.
