The Atlanta Hawks travel to the AT&T Center to take on the San Antonio Spurs tonight.
After a disappointing 109-102 loss at Toronto on opening night, the Atlanta Hawks knew that they needed to take advantage of the shorthanded Pacers and they did with their defense, holding the Pacers to just 38.3 percent shooting and forcing 18 turnovers. Jeff Teague led the scoring with 25 points on seven of 14 shooting while Al Horford added 20 points on nine of 14 shooting as the Hawks shot over 50 percent from the field as a team. Yes, the Pacers were without three of their usual starters, but for once the Philips Arena was packed so it was nice to give those fans a win.

Meanwhile, the San Antonio Spurs kicked off their season with a dramatic win over the Mavericks but are coming off a disappointing 94-89 loss against the Suns despite leading 24-11 after the first quarter. Tony Parker had 19 points while Tim Duncan added 16, but the Spurs got next to nothing from Kawhi Leonard who returned from an eye infection but missed all five of his field goal attempts to finish with just six points. The bottom line is that the Spurs started the game on fire, but simply got blown off the court by Isaiah Thomas who sparked the Suns with 23 points off the bench.
In ATS trends, the Hawks are 5-2 ATS in their last seven road games against a team with a winning home record but just 0-4 ATS in their last four games following a win, while the Spurs are 9-2 ATS in their last 11 home games and 4-10 ATS in their last 14 games following an ATS loss.
Head to head, the Hawks are 2-5 TS in the last seven meetings overall and 3-10-1 ATS in the last 14 meetings in San Antonio.
I can tell you that I'm leaning towards the Spurs to win and cover here as long as the spread isn't too hefty. However, please check back later for my free pick once the line is released.
