The New York Knicks and the Atlanta Hawks face off on Monday in Madison Square Garden in NBA action.
The New York Knicks are off to a 2-5 start to the season losing two of their three home games and losing their last four games in a row. The Knicks are averaging just 92 points per game and they are shooting 43.8 percent from the floor while defensively their opponents average 99.4 points and they shoot 45.6 percent. The Knicks are shooting 41.7 percent from beyond the three-point arc and they average 40.1 rebounds per game to their opponents 42.4. Carmelo Anthony leads the Knicks averaging 19.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game. Iman Shumpert is averaging 13.7 points and Amar’e Stoudemire is averaging 12.3 points and 8.3 rebounds. While with Phil Jackson and Derek Fisher it is a new system in New York the fans were hoping for more from the team.
USA TODAY Sports
The Atlanta Hawks have played just five games so far this season but they are 0-3 on the road thus far. The Hawks are averaging 1-3.6 points and they shoot 45.5 percent from the floor while defensively their opponents average 102.6 points and hey shoot 44.4 percent. The Hawks are shooting 41 percent from beyond the three-point arc and they average just 39 rebounds to their opponents 47.4. Jeff Teague leads the hawks averaging 18.2 points and 8.2 assists per game. Kyle Korver is averaging 16.6 points, Al Horford is averaging 14.4 points and 8.0 rebounds, and Paul Milsap is averaging 13.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 3.2 assists. Atlanta should improve but they will need to improve their presence on the boards.
New York is 2-5 against the spread against a team with a losing record, 1-4 against the spread in their last five games, and 1-10 against the spread against the NBA Southeast. Atlanta is 2-5 against the spread in their last seven games, 1-4 against the spread following a win, and 1-5 against the spread against the Eastern Conference.
The Hawks are a mild favorite but I will wait until they win on the road to pick them as a road favorite so it is a lean to the Knicks to win for the home crowd.
