The Philadelphia 76ers and Dallas Mavericks play Thursday night at the American Airlines Center.
The Philadelphia 76ers are still looking for their first win of the season and play game two of a four-game road trip. The 76ers are simply lousy on both sides of the ball, especially defense where they’re allowing 106.1 points on 47.3 percent shooting from the field. The Philadelphia 76ers have lost nine of their last 10 games when allowing 100 or more points. Offensively, Tony Wroten leads the 76ers with 21.9 points and 6.7 assists, while Brandon Davies is second on the team with 10.4 points per game. Those are the only two players averaging in double digits, which simply isn’t going to get the job done. The 76ers are shooting 42.6 percent from the field on the season. Nerlens Noel is questionable for this game with an ankle injury. Of course, the 76ers are likely going to continue their tanking mode in hopes of getting the top draft pick.
USA TODAY Sports
The Dallas Mavericks have split their last four games and hope to improve to 4-1 at home. The Mavericks have been an offensive machine out of the gate, averaging 105.1 points on 47.9 percent shooting from the field. Dirk Nowitzki leads Dallas with 20.9 points on 52.9 percent shooting, and Monta Ellis is averaging 17.1 points and 4.6 assists. The Dallas Mavericks have won eight of their last 11 games when scoring 100 or more points. Chandler Parsons is still trying to figure things out, as he’s 5-22 from downtown in his last four games. Defense is what’s hurt the Mavs lately, as they’re allowing teams to score 101.6 points on 46.9 percent shooting. Jameer Nelson is questionable for this game with a hamstring injury.
The 76ers are 18-39-1 ATS in their last 58 vs. Western Conference and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 vs. NBA Southwest. The Mavericks are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 home games and 12-4 ATS in their last 16 games overall. The underdog is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings.
I can't lay this many points off the table when two NBA teams are playing each other. Besides, the Mavs play little to no defense and are allowing 100-point performances left and right. While the 76ers may still struggle, getting nearly 15 points is too much to pass up here.
