The Philadelphia 76ers and Houston Rockets clash Friday night at the Toyota Center.
The Philadelphia 76ers still have yet to win a game and are coming off one of their worst losses in franchise history, a 123-70 Thursday loss to the Dallas Mavericks. In the loss, the 76ers shot just 29.9 percent from the field turned the ball over 27 times and allowed the Mavericks to shoot 51.3 percent from the field. The good news is that the 76ers got Michael Carter-Williams back on the court, as he scored 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds in 30 minutes of action. Besides that and Tony Wroten, who is averaging 23.4 points this month, the Philadelphia 76ers haven’t had much to cheer about this season. Of course, the 76ers aren’t out there exactly trying to win, as the top pick in next year’s draft means a lot more to this struggling franchise that is still a few years away from being anything close to competitive.
USA TODAY Sports
The Houston Rockets are an impressive 7-1 and have been playing quality ball at both ends of the court. The Rockets defense has been the most impressive, as they’re holding teams to just 92.1 points on 41.1 percent shooting from the field. The Houston Rockets, a team that didn’t play much defense a season ago, has won nine of their last 10 games when holding a team under 100 points. Offensively, the Rockets are averaging 103.2 points on 45 percent shooting. James Harden leads the way with 25.1 points and 7.5 assists, while Dwight Howard is chipping in 20 points and 11.3 rebounds. Trevor Ariza is shooting 48.1 percent from downtown and Jason Terry is 9-14 from three in his last three games. The Rockets are a scary basketball team early on.
The 76ers are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 Friday games and 16-38 ATS in their last 54 games playing on 0 days rest. The Rockets are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 Friday games and 10-2 ATS in their last 12 games overall. The 76ers are 10-4 ATS in the last 14 meetings, while the home team is 7-0 ATS in the last 7 meetings.
I hate laying the chalk, but would you trust the 76ers with any amount of points after what we just saw yesterday? I think not.
