The Los Angeles Lakers invade the Toyota Center to battle the Houston Rockets tonight.
The Los Angeles Lakers have been the most cringe-worthy team to watch all season but they may be turning over a new leaf as they bounced back from their biggest loss of the season with a 114-109 upset win over the Hawks last night. Kobe Bryant led the way with 28 points on just 18 shots but this time he received plenty of help as Carlos Boozer chipped in with 20 points while three other players finished in double figures. Jeremy Lin had a nice game of 15 points and 10 and 10 assists and Nick Young finally made his return to the court with a valuable 17 points in 28 minutes off the bench. For the first time all season, the Lakers looked like a team capable of playing some decent basketball, but they've got a lot of work to do to make up for their 2-9 start on the season.

Meanwhile, the Houston Rockets were tied with the Grizzlies for the best overall record in the league at 9-1 after 10 games, but they completely got found out on Monday when they met the Grizzlies face to face. James Harden was completely shut down and held to a season-low six points on one of eight shooting which left the Rockets down big early and without a chance of a comeback. In fact, looking back at the Rockets' start to the season overall, they've had a very favorable schedule to start the season and have had a few too many close calls against the lower teams in the league, most notably, their 88-87 escape over the league-worst Sixers on Friday, so maybe their record has been misleading us.
In ATS trends, the Lakers are 3-1-1 ATS in their last five games against a team with a winning record and 5-2 ATS in their last seven road games, while the Rockets are 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall and 2-6 ATS in their last eight against a team with a losing record.
Head to head, the Lakers are 0-4 ATS in the last four meetings overall and 1-5 ATS in the last six meetings in Houston.
I know all the trends are pointing towards the Rockets winning by double digits and covering the spread but the value play definitely looks to be with the Lakers and the points in this one.
