The Memphis Grizzlies look to continue rolling as they host the Boston Celtics from FedEx Forum on Friday night.
The Boston Celtics are 4-6 to start the year as the young team has shown strength offensively but struggled immensely on defense. The Celtics have beaten the weaker teams but fallen short against better teams despite putting a scare in the Suns, Cavs, Raptors and Mavericks during the month of November. PG Rajon Rondo is nearly averaging a triple double with 12 assists, 10 points and eight rebounds per game to pace the offense that averages 107 points per game. Jeff Green has added to the offensive cause with 19 points per game and Jared Sullinger is emerging as a legitimate force down low with 16 points and nine rebounds per game. The Celtics are definitely an intriguing underdog under coach Brad Stevens, but they'll meet a stiff challenge here on the road against an elite Grizzlies defense.

The Memphis Grizzlies are 10-2 to start the year which for the moment gives them the best record in the NBA. Memphis is employing the same strategy as years past which centers on a stingy defense that ranks 2nd conceding just 92 points per game. The Grizzlies are also comfortable in possession in the half-court game with a veteran point guard in Mike Conley and stable workhorses under the basket in Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph. The Grizzlies are actually coming off a loss last time out, falling on the road to the Raptors as illnesses hit the team hard, leaving the Grizzlies with just 10 active players. Among those sick was defensive pest Tony Allen, who is a key player to check the status of here before wagering on this game.
The Celtics really need to find their defensive form before they can be trusted against solid Western conference teams on the road, but I'll take my chances that they give a strong effort here given their history against quality opponents thus far. The spread has yet to be released but we know the Celtics will be underdogs, it’s just a question of how many points which won’t come out until the availability of certain Grizzlies players becomes known. Please check back for a confirmation on my unit rating when the spread is released but I’m on Boston here.
