The Utah Jazz host the Orlando Magic in a battle of 14-loss teams from opposite conferences on Friday night.
The Orlando Magic enter this game at 7-14 on the year with a 5-9 mark away from home. The Magic are playing the fifth game of a six game road trip with a 1-3 mark on the trip thus far. The win came in Phoenix as a 9.5 point underdog which the team nearly followed up impressively in Golden State, only to allow a Stephen Curry three pointer to lose the lead and the game with seconds to play. The other two losses were beat downs by the Pacers and Clippers as the young Magic currently lack direction and cohesion required to deliver consistent efforts at this level. The Magic have a solid young core with Nicola Vucevic, Tobias Harris and Victor Oladipo, but scoring hasn’t been easy for the team with just 94.3 points per game on the year to rank 24th in the league. The Magic could also stand to improve on the defensive end with a 19th ranked unit that concedes 100.6 points per game on average.

The Utah Jazz are in a different spot than the Magic with their fourteen losses as the team really expected to vie for a playoff spot after committing to Gordon Hayward and Derrick Favors as foundational players. The duo does lead the team and scoring and Favors leads the team in rebounding, but the Jazz have struggled as a team to score ranking 22nd in the league while averaging 96.4 points per game. Utah is currently riding a seven game losing streak with their last win coming over an injury-ravaged Thunder team on November 18th. The two previous wins before that came against the Knicks and Pistons, so the Jazz might be able to snap their skid with another weak Eastern conference team in town.
I'm taking a shot with the over here as we have two teams with plenty of young offensive talent but at the same team lack of cohesion defensively which should allow for an uptempo battle.
