The Utah Jazz and Phoenix Suns square off Friday night at the US Airways Center.
The Utah Jazz continue to drop in the standings with losses in five of their last eight games. On the season, the Jazz are averaging 95.9 points on 45.1 percent shooting and are allowing 98.6 points on 46.2 percent shooting. Gordon Hayward is averaging 19.3 points and 4.1 assists while Derrick Favors is averaging 15.7 points and 8.3 rebounds. Enes Kanter is grabbing 7.6 rebounds and Trey Burke is dishing 4.8 assists. The Utah Jazz continue to be an inconsistent basketball team, especially on the defensive side where they’re allowing 45.9 percent shooting from the field in their last five games. The Jazz have lost 10 of their last 11 games SU when allowing 100-plus points. Eight of the Jazz’s 17 victories this season happen to have come on the road.
USA TODAY Sports
The Phoenix Suns have lost five of their last seven games and are dropping slowly out of the playoff race. On the season, the Suns are averaging 106.6 points on 46.4 percent shooting and are allowing 104.9 points on 45.4 percent shooting. Eric Bledsoe is averaging 16.9 points and six assists while Goran Dragic is averaging 16.5 points and four assists. Isaiah Thomas is dishing 3.6 assists and Markieff Morris is grabbing 5.9 rebounds. The Phoenix Suns have scored 87 points in two of their last three games and are shooting just 43.4 percent from the field in their last five games. Due to their defensive issues, the Suns must be better on the offensive end if they’re going to end this tough losing stretch. Alex Len is questionable for this game with an ankle injury.
The Jazz are 19-7 ATS in their last 26 games playing on 1 days rest and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall. The Suns are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games playing on 0 days rest and 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games vs. a team with a losing S.U. record. The Jazz are 14-5-1 ATS in the last 20 meetings in Phoenix and 5-1-1 ATS in the last 7 meetings overall.
While the Jazz have been solid ATS as of late, the Suns are the better team here and know they have to start winning if they're going to hang onto a playoff spot in the West. While there may be better bets on the board, I like the Suns in this spot.
