NFL Updates: News From Around the League, Off-Season Schedule and More
February 20, 2015
With the NFL Combine heading into the weekend, we’re sure to be hearing plenty about many of the league’s future stars over the next few days. With that said, let’s check out some of the headlines and key players everyone’s talking about this morning.
The Eagles released tight end James Casey yesterday, bringing some badly-needed salary cap flexibility to the team.
The move will save Philly $4 million next year. Casey played in all 16 games but had just three grabs for 59 yards and two scores.

The Packers have some thinking to do when it comes to WR Randall Cobb. The team has until March 2 to figure out whether or not they’ll be using the franchise tag on him, a move that would cost $12 million in salary for 2015.
Cobb is reportedly looking for a deal somewhere in the neighborhood of what fellow Packers WR Jordy Nelson got last season, a four-year, $39 million contract. He’s certainly got the stats to back it up: Cobb posted 91 catches (a career-high) for 1,287 yards and 12 scores last season.
Seahawks safety Earl Thomas was injured in the NFC Title game versus the aforementioned packers, separating his shoulder and tearing his labrum. He still hasn’t had surgery on it yet.
Thomas could come into training camp this summer limited due to the injury, depending on when he ends up having the corrective procedure.
Giants WR Victor Cruz is coming along as expected in his rehab from a torn patella tendon, according to team coach Tom Coughlin. Cruz is set to begin running very soon.
He’s coming off a 23-catch, 337-yard season in six games last year.
The Browns seem to have a pretty good RB tandem in Isaiah Crowell and Terrance West, but GM Ray Farmer said yesterday that the team will be looking to add more running backs during the off-season.
No word yet on whether the team will be focusing on the draft or free agency for those extra backs, however.
Crowell and West combined for 1,280 yards in 2014.
