Gannett for USA TODAY Job # 1307
Position: Point Guard
Career Stats: 18 ppg, 6.5 rpg, five assists and 1.6 steals.
Strengths: Emmanuel Mudiay is a big point guard who also has the ability to play shooting guard. Mudiay sees the floor extremely well and is a nightmare to defend in the open court. Mudiay picked up valuable experience against better competition in China than he would have received in college. Mudiay has a quick first step and a nice crossover that creates separation. Mudiay has impressive leaping ability and is an above-average rebounder for his position. Mudiay is an overall great athlete and plays unselfish. Mudiay is a great finisher at the rim and finishes through contact. Emmanuel Mudiay has a strong work ethic and doesn’t come with any off-the-court issues to worry about.
Weaknesses: Emmanuel Mudiay remains a streaky shooter, especially from the outside, and has a slow release. Mudiay can sometimes over dribble and tends the force the issue which leads to turnovers. Mudiay will need to improve his leadership skills for the point guard position and develop more of a consistent motor.
Projection: Emmanuel Mudiay should be one of the first players drafted, as he’s a quality guard with elite size. Mudiay is a playmaker at both ends of the floor and just turned 19 years old. Mudiay is one of the more polished players in this draft class and could quickly become one of the go-to guys for a lottery team that’s looking for direction.
