The Brooklyn Nets and the Atlanta Hawks play Game 3 at the Barclays Center today.
The Atlanta Hawks were able to extend their series lead to 2-0 in Game 2 with a 96-91 win over the Nets. Paul Millsap led the scoring with 19 points on seven of 11 shooting including four of four from the three-point line and he received plenty of support as Kyle Korver added 17 points and Jeff Teague added 16. Al Horford didnt have the best shooting night, making just six of his 15 shot attempts, but he contributed in other ways, finishing with 14 points, 13 rebounds, seven assists and two blocks as the Hawks beat the Nets despite shooting just 38.9 percent from the field. Defensively, the Hawks had their hands full with the Nets' duo of Brook Lopez and Joe Johnson, but they did a great job of limiting the effectiveness of Deron Williams who finished with just two points on one of seven shooting. All in all, the Hawks have yet to play anywhere near their best basketball, but it looks like they're still good enough to get the job done.
USA TODAY Sports
As for the Nets, Brook Lopez needed to get more involved after a quiet performance in Game 1 and he bounced back by scoring 20 points on eight of 15 shooting while Joe Johnson chipped in with 19 points. Jarrett Jack provided the Nets with much-needed offense off the bench, finishing the game with 23 points including 14 in the second quarter, but the Nets were really let down by Deron Williams and Thaddeus Young who scored just two points each. Despite the tough loss, the Nets will be quietly confident about their chances in the series as they've been more than competitive so far, so a win in Game 3 will certainly have the Hawks a little worried.
In ATS trends, the Hawks are 3-1-1 ATS in their last five games following a win and 0-4-1 ATS in their last five games overall, while the Nets are 5-0 ATS in their last five Conference Quarterfinals games and 6-2-1 ATS in their last nine home games.
Head to head, the Hawks are 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings in Brooklyn and the road team is 7-1 ATS in the last eight meetings overall.
I was really hoping that the Nets would get at least a couple more points at home, but it may not even matter because I have the Nets winning Game 3 straight up. In no way do I believe that the Nets can win this series, but the Hawks just haven't found their rhythm yet so the Nets look to be a real chance at springing the minor upset here.
