School: Arkansas Razorbacks
USA TODAY Sports
Position: Power Forward
Career Stats: 15 ppg, 7.9 rpg, 1.3 assists and 1.1 steals
Strengths: Bobby Portis has decent size for his position and terrific length. Portis has an impressive mid-range game with NBA three potential. Portis can create his own shot and finishes strong through contact. Portis takes good care of the ball and makes the right basketball play. Portis is an active defender and an above-average rebounder on the offensive glass. Portis has a high basketball IQ and sees the floor well. Portis shot a solid 73.7 percent from the free throw line. Portis plays with a ton of energy and wants to win in the worst way. Bobby Portis works hard and comes with no off-the-court issues. Portis improved both seasons with Arkansas. Portis just turned 20 years old in February.
Weaknesses: Bobby Portis isn’t a great athlete and lacks explosiveness. Portis can settle offensively, especially with the deep ball. Portis is still raw in the post and could improve his footwork. There are questions with Portis’ ceiling.
Projection: Bobby Portis is a player who is only going to improve his game. While Portis doesn’t have great athleticism, he brings high energy and a versatile game to the court. Portis will be a successful NBA player at both ends and could eventually work his way into a starting role. I like Portis as an NBA prospect and think he could be a homerun pick in the middle of the first round.
