The Los Angeles Clippers hope to have Chris Paul back for Game 2 against the Houston Rockets.
The Clippers were dealt a tough blow when they learned that Chris Paul would miss Game 1 of the series with a hamstring injury, but maybe it was a blessing in disguise because everyone else lifted their game to an unlikely 117-101 win over the Rockets. Blake Griffin led the way with a triple-double of 26 points, 14 rebounds and 13 assists, Jamal Crawford added 21 points and Matt Barnes added 20 points. JJ Redick chipped in with 17 points and the Clippers got a major boost from Austin Rivers who stepped into the starting point guard role and finished with four threes en route to 17 points. Despite coming fresh off a seven-game series, the Clippers looked the fresher team down the stretch, outscoring the Rockets by 71-51 in the second half.

As for the Rockets, Dwight Howard led the scoring with 22 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks while Trevor Ariza chipped in with 17 points, but the Rockets needed a lot more from James Harden who scored 20 points and 12 assists but committed a season-high nine turnovers. The final score is not quite indicative of how close this game actually was, but the Clippers just hit fire late in the fourth quarter and blew out a narrow lead to a double-digit win. Overall, it was a real disappointing performance for the Rockets because they were the team coming off almost a week of rest, yet they were completely outworked in the final quarter.
In ATS trends, the Clippers are 15-5-1 ATS in their last 21 road games and 2-6-1 ATS in their last nine games following a win, while the Rockets are 13-3 ATS in their last 16 games following a loss of more than 10 points and 21-8 ATS in their last 29 home games.
Head to head, the Clippers are 7-2 ATS in the last nine meetings overall and 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings in Houston.
CP3 is listed as questionable for Game 2 which is a major loss for the Clippers, which is obviously a major loss. However, the Clippers just beat the Rockets convincingly without their leader and while they may not be able to do it again, taking the points seems like the safer option here.
