The New York Knicks were the losers of the 2015 NBA draft lottery after suffering arguably their worst season ever and ending up with just the fourth overall pick.
Well, maybe a selection of point guard Emmanuel Mudiay will put Knicks’ fans at ease.

Mudiay isn’t the star big that New York was hoping for, but he is a reliable floor general who can create for himself and others. Mudiay has elite size at 6’5”, can get any shot he wants and has extreme athleticism that helps him thrive at both ends of the floor.
Another reason Mudiay would succeed in New York is that he spent a year in China playing against grown men, so he’s very mature for a 19 year old and the bright lights really shouldn’t bother him. Mudiay is a little ahead of the curve when you consider most of the other players in this class are coming out of college life and may need some time adjusting to the grown up world.
The Knicks have question marks at every position, so drafting anybody with talent should be considered an upgrade. However, this league has been taken over by elite point guards and pretty much every playoff team has a great point guard leading the way. It’s tough to succeed in today’s NBA without a top tier point guard running the show.
Jose Calderon is still under contract for another two years, but he’s not a long-term solution for the Knicks at 33 years old, and he’d probably be more effective anyway if he was to come off the bench. It wouldn’t be long before Mudiay is starting for New York and forming an impressive 1-2 punch with Carmelo Anthony.
Mudiay is a guy who could really takeover games, and he’s going to be even better once he improves his consistency with his jumper. Considering he just turned 19, the Knicks could have their point guard for the next decade-plus, putting them way ahead of the ball in their rebuilding process.
The Knicks could go a lot of directions with this pick, but Mudiay is the safest and most beneficial to this team.
