NBA Player Updates 5/30: The Latest News from Around the League, Upcoming TV Schedule and More
May 30, 2015
We’ve still got another five days to wait before the NBA Finals get going, but in the meantime there’s plenty to talk about when it comes to news from around the league. That said, let’s take our daily look at the happenings in the headlines.
Making news this week down in Miami is the current situation between Dwyane Wade and the Heat regarding his contract talks.
A report came out recently, saying that the two sides were pretty far apart in their negotiations, leaving room for all sorts of speculation on Wade’s future.
Wade’s camp maintains that it’s still early in the contract discussions, however, and expects to be at the bargaining table for some time to come.
Wade has until late next month to decide whether or not he’ll opt out of his contract with the Heat, which is where he’s spent the entirety of his dozen-year NBA career. That said, there’s plenty of speculation out there that Wade may jump ship, possibly even joining up with LeBron in Cleveland (which would take quite a bit of financial wrangling on the Cavs’ part).
If Wade does indeed stay in Miami, he’ll make $16.1 million next year.

After taking a scary-looking knee to the head in his team’s series-clinching game this week, Warriors guard Klay Thompson was showing symptoms of a concussion. Turns out he actually did sustain one, and he was throwing up in the aftermath of the game.
As such, he’ll need to pass the league’s concussion protocol before they’ll allow him back on the court for the NBA Finals.
The good news is that Thompson has reportedly been feeling better in the days after the injury. He’s also got a handful of days to try and recover. The early indications were that he should be able to play when the series gets started against the Cavaliers, but realistically it’s anyone’s guess.
