NBA Player Updates 6/2: The Latest News from Around the League, Upcoming TV Schedule and More
June 2, 2015
We’ve got just two more days to wait until the 2015 NBA Finals begin, and with each passing day the anticipation ratchets up another notch. While we’re waiting on tip-off, let’s check out some of the day’s top storylines.
The Cavs are dealing with their fair share of injury situations these days, and they’ve got another one to monitor in guard Iman Shumpert. He’s been dealing with a pulled groin muscle throughout the playoffs, which makes it kind of surprising that he’s been able to put up any kind of numbers at all.
Even with the injury, Shumpert has been a key piece for the Cavaliers in these playoffs. He’s averaging 10.1 PPG and 5.4 RPG. The team will definitely need him as healthy as possible in the Finals.

Speaking of the Finals, there’s been all sorts of speculation regarding the Warriors’ Klay Thompson, who is trying to get over a concussion before Game 1 on Thursday.
The good news is that Thompson is feeling better every day, and is no longer experiencing headaches associated with his head injury, which he sustained in Golden State’s clinching Game 5 against the Rockets. He was able to practice in full yesterday, which is a great sign.
Thompson will still need to jump through the proverbial hoops of the league’s concussion protocol before being cleared to play in the Finals, but by all indications the general consensus is that he should be able to take the court in Game 1.
Thompson’s postseason averages stand at 19.7 PPG and 3.7 RPG.
Is Patrick Beverley headed for a new home this off-season? If Mavericks forward Chandler Parsons has his way, that’ll be the case. Parsons has reportedly been recruiting Beverley to jump ship from the Rockets to the Mavericks, which logistically speaking wouldn’t be that far of a move.
Beverley will be a free agent this summer, after averaging 10.2 PPG this year and becoming one of the top-tier defensive players in the league.
He’s a restricted free agent, so Houston will get a chance to match any offer he receives.
