NBA Player Updates 7/4: The Latest News from Around the League, Off-Season Schedule and More
July 4, 2015
The NBA has been a non-stop news factory for the past several days, what with free agency in full swing. We’re bound to hear lots more this weekend, so with that in mind let’s check out some of the notable players and situations out there right now.
We’ll start things out today with some Heat news. PG Shabazz Napier is battling a hernia right now, and sources close to the team believe he may very well miss the start of the Summer League action.
Napier posted 51 games in his rookie season, logging 5.1 PPG and 2.5 APG.

One other Miami notable from yesterday: the team inked first-round pick Justise Winslow to his rookie deal.
Winslow was scooped up at No. 10 overall after logging 12.6 PPG and 6.5 RPG averages last year.
The Hornets’ Troy Daniels made some positive strides during last season, and the team already has a plan in mind to keep him involved on a long-term basis.
Charlotte brass is pushing Daniels to flesh out his all-around game, specifically working off the dribble and keying in on defense. Physically, they’d also like to see him get stronger.
Daniels logged 13 of 25 shots from 3-point range late last season, so if he can expand his game he’ll develop into a versatile weapon for the team.
The Knicks inked PF Derrick Williams to a deal late last night. They’ll get him for two years and $10 million.
Williams logged 8.3 PPG and 2.7 RPG averages last year with Sacramento.
In LaMarcus Aldridge news, it seems the pursuit is down to three teams. The Suns, Spurs and Trail Blazers are reportedly in the lead for his services and have distanced themselves from the rest of the pack.
Aldridge is also being courted by the Lakers, Heat, Mavericks, Raptors and Rockets, and while they’re not out of the running yet, they’ve fallen behind a bit according to reports.
We’ll likely find out the winner in another day or two.
NBA Off-Season Schedule: Now that the season is over, we can spend the rest of our summer prepping for the 2015-16 campaign. Let’s check out a few key dates from the off-season period.
