The New Orleans Pelicans and Indiana Pacers play a Saturday preseason game at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
The New Orleans Pelicans look to build on last year’s playoff appearance, and they’ll do so with new coach Alvin Gentry. Gentry will take what he did with the Golden State Warriors and try to turn the Pelicans into an offensive powerhouse. We all know about the Pelicans talent that includes star Anthony Davis and productive under-the-radar players such as Jrue Holiday and Ryan Anderson. This preseason, however, the New Orleans Pelicans have to find out if they have anything in younger players like Sean Kilpatrick, Corey Webster and Bryce Dejean-Jones. The one thing that made the Warriors so great was the amount of depth, something the Pelicans are still trying to find at the moment. Still, the Pelicans head into the preseason with a solid bunch that now has some playoff experience under their belt.
USA TODAY Sports
The Indiana Pacers head into the preseason as a major question mark with Roy Hibbert and David West no longer on the roster. The Pacers have really fallen off lately and coach Frank Vogel may be fighting for his job this season after just 38 wins last year. The good news is that Indiana will have a healthy Paul George back on the court and the signing of explosive shooting guard Monta Ellis will help in the scoring department. This preseason will belong to Rakeem Christmas, Joseph Young and Myles Turner, young guys who have a chance to breathe some life into this Pacers’ franchise. The Indiana Pacers still have a lot of concerns, but a possible playoff push could be in store if scoring depth is found during exhibition play over these next couple of weeks.
I'm not sure what to expect with either team, as the Pacers are a giant question mark and the Pelicans have a new coaching staff. However, the New Orleans Pelicans are the better team here.
I'll take New Orleans and the free bucket.
