The Los Angeles Lakers shoot for a win at the Toyota Center against the Houston Rockets.
I think it’s safe to say Kobe Bryant’s final season hasn’t been going as planned with the team falling to 4-20 following a 109-87 loss at San Antonio on Friday night that was up for grabs until the Spurs went on a 30-16 run in the 4th. The Lakers struggled to score and defend with 40% shooting not standing up to the Spurs 53.7% accuracy. Three players cracked double digits in scoring led by D’Angelo Russell with 24 points, six pulls and six helpers followed by Louis Williams and his 19 points on 7-12 from the floor. Bryant rounded things out with 12 points and six rebounds on 5-12 but the bottom line was Los Angeles was short on scoring options and had trouble getting stops.
USA TODAY Sports
The Houston Rockets have been less then ordinary thus far at 11-12 but the team seems to be finding their way lately with wins four of five after a 109-103 road victory versus Washington on Wednesday. The offensive minded Rockets did what they do best and that’s score while their much maligned defense did just enough to win. The Wizards connected at 44% but probably cost themselves a win with a 5-25 effort from beyond the arc. On the flip side the Rockets sank shots at 48% and were 12-33 from distance. James Harden carried the offense with a monster 42 points, nine rebounds and seven helpers on 13-23 shooting with Corey Brewer adding 15 points and seven boards. Patrick Beverley and Clint Capela tossed in 14 and ten points respectively.
The Lakers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games playing on 0 days rest and are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 road games vs. a team with a losing home record while going 3-7 ATS in their last 10 road games. The over is 4-0 in Rockets last 4 Saturday games and the Rockets are 1-7 ATS in their last 8 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400 while going 10-2 ATS in their last 12 games playing on 2 days rest. The Lakers are 1-5 ATS in the last 6 meetings and are 3-8 ATS in the last 11 meetings in Houston. For whatever reason the Rockets have been cover machines versus the Lakers so I’ll stay with that trend…
