NBA Player Updates 12/23: The Latest News from Around the League, Tonight's TV Schedule and More
December 23, 2015
We’ve got a stuffed 13-game NBA schedule ahead of us tonight before the league goes dark for Christmas Eve. While we’re waiting on all that intense action, let’s check out some of the notable players and situations out there in the headlines.
Grizzlies-Sixers: Marc Gasol came up big last night for the Grizzlies in Philadelphia as Memphis bagged a 104-90 win against the flailing Sixers. He put up 19 points, and Mike Conley helped out with 18 points and six assists.
Five Grizzlies scored in double figures here, and Memphis caused 28 turnovers from Philly. They got 36 points off of those turnovers.
The Grizzlies have been running with a small lineup lately, and have stepped up their defense. They’ve held five straight opponents under 100 points.

Pistons-Heat: This game was the proverbial nail-biter that came down to the final stages. The Heat were up early on the Pistons, but Detroit dug out of an 18-point hole with a 3-point shooting spurt. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope buried a jumper with 55.5 seconds left in the game, and that shot turned out to be the game-winner as Detroit got past the Heat 93-92 in Miami.
Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh each had a chance to win the game in the final seconds, but couldn’t get them to go down.
Reggie Jackson was the high-scoring man for Detroit with 18 points.
Raptors-Mavericks: After one quarter, the Raptors led the Mavericks 32-16 last night in Toronto. The end result of 103-99 would be a lot closer, but it would still be a Raptors advantage.
DeMar DeRozan scored 28 points here, with Bismack Biyombo pulling down 20 rebounds (a career-high for him).
DeRozan scored 10 in the first quarter alone.
Kyle Lowry doubled up with 17 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists.
Lakers-Nuggets: Kobe Bryant looked like his old self last night in Denver, and it helped the Lakers get a rare win 111-107 over the Nuggets.
Bryant put up 31 points (tying a season-high), helping L.A. come back from a 21-point deficit in the first half. He also had five assists and a nice defensive night.
Nikola Jokic put up 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Nuggets.
