NBA Trade Updates: Potential Moves and Hot Topic Players Involved in Trade Talks Right Now
January 6, 2016
The NBA trade deadline is coming up next month (February 18th), and we’re starting to get a feel for some possible transactions that could be occurring within that time frame. Let’s take a closer look at a few of the current rumors out there and see if we can predict what will happen with each situation.
It’s no secret that the Rockets’ Dwight Howard is pretty unhappy with his current situation. Things have gotten better in Houston as of late record-wise, but it still wouldn’t surprise anyone to see a splashy trade on the horizon.
The latest rumor surrounding Howard is a possible deal involving the Toronto Raptors. If that were to happen, Howard would vastly improve his playoff chances, which seems to be the No. 1 item on his wish list these days.
Howard would fit in really well in Toronto, as a dominant center seems to be just about all they need. With an opt-out likely after this season, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Rockets deal him.

Let’s move elsewhere in the East to check out another team that’s being mentioned as a possible Howard suitor in the New York Knicks. They’re not too far out of the playoff conversation in an ugly-looking Conference, and a couple of pieces could put them over the hump this season.
Besides Howard, the Knicks have been linked to the Clippers’ Jamal Crawford or the Nets’ Jarrett Jack. A few other names that have been tossed out there associated with New York include Brandon Jennings, Ty Lawson and Kevin Martin.
The glaring need for the Knicks is in the backcourt, but we could see them go after a big man (like Howard) as well.
One thing’s for sure: this is just the beginning of the trade rumors involving New York.
Let’s take a closer look at Brandon Jennings’ situation. He’s starting to look back to normal again after an Achilles injury, and given his expiring contract it’s not crazy to think the Pistons might try and get max value for him while he’s hot.
For what it’s worth, the team has stayed mum publicly about trading Jennings, but with the contracts they’ve got now it’s unlikely they would be able to keep him after this year. He’ll be another hot-topic name as we move forward.
Markieff Morris is another guy we’ll be hearing about a lot in the next few weeks. Cleveland is said to have some interest in him, and it would make sense for the Suns to move him given his recent public comments about his dissatisfaction with the franchise.
Morris would be a great pickup for the Cavaliers, and would help them to match up with teams like the Warriors a little better. We’ll have to wait and see if any of the talk comes to fruition.
