NBA Trade Updates: Potential Moves and Hot Topic Players Involved in Trade Talks Right Now
January 20, 2016
We’ve got a big NBA schedule coming up tonight, which makes today a great time to talk about some of the league’s trade rumors floating out there right now. There are plenty of notable players currently in discussions for trades, so let’s check out a few of the storylines and see if we can determine what might be happening over the next few weeks as the trade deadline nears.
The Pelicans have some definite interest in making a deal over the next few weeks to try and improve their forward position.
Rumor has it they’re looking at Kings forward Rudy Gay, and would probably be shipping out Ryan Anderson as part of any deal. Anderson is a free agent at the end of this year.

As for the Lakers, they’re more in cap-management mode right now, and will likely cut bait with Roy Hibbert and Brandon Bass.
Hibbert is probably destined for a move regardless, seeing as how he’s a free agent at the end of the year. If no trade materializes we’re probably looking at a buyout so he can go where he wants.
With the injury to Joakim Noah, you can pretty much count the Bulls out of the trade market. Noah’s basically done for the season, and would have been the Bulls’ main trade chip. He’s a free agent at the end of the season.
There are lots of trade options on the table for the Rockets, and they’ll be exploring every possibility in the coming weeks. Terrence Jones, Corey Brewer and Ty Lawson are all realistic possibilities, and there’s even a chance the team could move Dwight Howard.
Houston will be a team to watch in the coming weeks, as they’ve got a history of pulling off some big-time moves near deadline time.
The defending champion Warriors have generated some rumors when it comes to Harrison Barnes. The team may end up dealing for him so they can free up some cash to re-sign Stephen Curry to a larger contract.
Curry’s current salary of $11.3 million will go into the stratosphere in 2017 when his contract is up, so Golden State might make some preparatory moves with that date on the horizon.
The Cavaliers have a lot of trade rumors surrounding them these days, especially following this week’s embarrassing loss to the Warriors. Realistically, the Cavs’ most moveable piece is Timofey Mozgov, whose role has diminished this season.
Mozgov is a free agent after soon, and it remains to be seen what type of value he’ll have on the open market. Still, the Cavs will have a lot of pressure on them to try and improve things and make a championship run in the coming days, so they’ll definitely be testing the waters.
