NBA Trade Updates: Potential Moves and Hot Topic Players Involved in Trade Talks Right Now
January 27, 2016
It’s Wednesday, and around this time of year that means it’s time for us to once again check out some of the notable NBA trade rumors out there. We’ll be hearing lots of chatter about potential moves over the next couple of weeks as we get closer to the deadline, so let’s visit with a few of the ongoing storylines and see if we can determine what might be taking place with some of the marquis players in the league.
It’s been a while since we’ve checked in with the always-entertaining New York Knicks, so let’s see what’s going on with them on the trade front.
The latest news out of the Big Apple surrounds star forward Carmelo Anthony, who is reportedly utilizing the no-trade clause in his contract to prevent the team from dealing him.
Anthony has repeatedly maintained that he wishes to remain in New York, despite the fact that he’s 31 years old and the hourglass is running out on his championship aspirations. He seems to want to wait on GM Phil Jackson to assemble a squad that can challenge for a title, and that may not be as far away as it once seemed.
The Knicks have rookie Kristaps Porzingis alongside Anthony now, and the team could be quite potent with a star guard and a few potent role-players.
So, expect Anthony to stay put for now. That said, Jackson could swing a deal for a guard in exchange for a player like Robin Lopez or Lance Thomas.

Another interesting piece of trade rumor that’s surfaced over the past few days is the Cavaliers’ possibility of trading Kevin Love. That’s a move that would have seemed inconceivable last year, but is quickly gaining steam as a legitimate scenario.
With Kyrie Irving back, it seems Love can’t function at his optimal level. He’s not getting as many possessions or scoring as much these days, and with the Cavs in “anything is possible” mode this year when it comes to personnel and players, Love might be in a different uniform in a few weeks.
Let’s move on over to the West to check out a scenario involving the Lakers. Los Angeles is obviously in a rebuild mode as Kobe checks out in his final year. They’re likely open to trying out different things with their lineup, and a player who keeps getting mentioned is David Lee.
Lee is 32 and carries a pretty hefty salary which might cause him to get moved. The Lakers would make sense, as they can offer up someone like Roy Hibbert and get an upgrade in Lee to go alongside their youngsters.
We’ll finish up back in the East today with the Bulls. The team has some potential trade chips in Taj Gibson and Pau Gasol, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see either moved.
Gasol has an option coming up after this year, and some speculate he’s had it in Chicago. The only problem there for the Bulls is that he’s still an offensive dynamo--even at his advanced age.
As for Gibson, he’s a free agent after 2017, so the team could look to get as much value as possible for him now.
