NBA Trade Updates: Potential Moves and Hot Topic Players Involved in Trade Talks Right Now
February 13, 2016
The NBA trade deadline is fast approaching, and with nothing meaningful going on over this All-Star weekend, it’s a good opportunity to check out some of the notable trade rumors from around the league. Here are a few of the rumblings everyone’s talking about.
Let’s kick things off today by taking our talents to South Beach and checking out the Heat. If there’s one player who’s a hot topic among the Miami roster, it’s Hassan Whiteside. His contract is expiring, and he’ll likely be too expensive to keep next season. Adding fuel to the proverbial fire is the fact that he reportedly doesn’t get along with the team all that well, and is prone to fits of anger and frustration.
All of that means the team could try and get some value for Whiteside now in a trade. Potential destinations being mentioned include the Rockets (which in all likelihood won’t happen), Wizards (which probably won’t happen either), Kings, Bucks, Pelicans and Mavericks.
Realistically speaking, the Pelicans have the assets to make a Whiteside trade work, and the Mavs have the right “win-now” mentality. These are two teams to watch as far as Whiteside is concerned.

It’s no secret that the Hawks have been dangling a few players out there on the potential trade market. Included in that group are both Jeff Teague and Al Horford, who present intriguing targets for any team in buy mode at the trade deadline.
There’s a catch, however. The Hawks are reportedly placing a very high price on Horford and Teague, which will disqualify a lot of asset-poor teams out there.
The Celtics are rumored to be quite interested in both players, and they’re probably the most likely squad to get something done before the deadline. In the meantime, there will be a lot of posturing as crunch time inches closer.
Now we move on over to Cleveland, who is in search of that final piece which will get them over the hump and win them a championship.
The latest news on them is that they’ve expressed some interest in the Kings’ Ben McLemore, but have thus far been shut down by Sacramento brass.
Other players on the Cavs’ potential trade list include Kyle Korver, Tyreke Evans and Omer Asik.
The Rockets are reportedly shopping center Dwight Howard ahead of the deadline as they try to halt the bleeding on their tumultuous season.
Howard is likely going to opt out this summer and leave the Rockets hanging anyway, so shipping him off to greener pastures may make sense as the team tries to figure things out.
Let’s finish up today with one quick note on Blake Griffin, as we can’t complete any trade rumors conversations without him.
According to sources close to the Clippers, almost “every team in the league” has been in touch about Griffin’s potential trade status. That said, the team hasn’t come close to initiating a deal for him as yet.
