NBA Trade Updates: Potential Moves and Hot Topic Players Involved in Trade Talks at Today's Deadline
February 18, 2016
Today’s the day. The NBA trade deadline will hit us full force early this afternoon (3 PM ET), and there are still plenty of questions to be answered. Last season had a slew of last-minute deals going on, and it remains to be seen if this year will be any different. For now, let’s check out some of the top trade headlines from around the league.
Last year, we didn’t see much action until trade deadline day, when there was a flurry of activity within the last 45 minutes as big-name players switched addresses.
We’ve seen a few deals over the last couple of days, but it looks like that scenario may play out again with the 2016 deadline. We’ll find out within the next few hours.

Don’t count on Pelicans PG Jrue Holiday going anywhere. Sources close to the team say he’s staying put as part of New Orleans' future plans.
The Kings are making a push to get Chicago’s Pau Gasol, who has been the source of major rumors lately.
In exchange for Gasol and Tony Snell, Sacramento is offering Kosta Koufos, Ben McLemore and a lowering of the lottery protections of this year’s first-round pick owed to the Bulls.
The Nets are reportedly getting absolutely zero interest in center Brook Lopez. It looks like the team is keeping him, which is what ownership wanted to do anyway.
The Bulls are interested in SG Ben McLemore of the Timberwolves (see above), but if that deal falls through he could go to the Timberwolves, who have also been poking around about him.
The Sixers are reportedly testing the market for rookie big man Jahlil Okafor. We’d imagine he’ll stay put, however. Philly is probably asking for the moon. They're looking to stockpile more draft picks, according to reports.
We may not see a whole lot of action happening on the trade front today until the Hawks make a decision regarding Al Horford and/or Jeff Teague. There have been plenty of teams knocking on the door for these two players, but the Hawks seem to be flip-flopping in their potential desire for a move. It’ll probably depend on the offers they get. Once those dominoes fall, we should see an up-tick in activity.
A Blake Griffin deal may not be forthcoming, but that doesn’t mean the Clippers will remain idle. They’ve reportedly got a deal in place with Orlando for Channing Frye in exchange for Lance Stephenson, C.J. Wilcox and a second round pick.
If this goes through, Stephenson wouldn’t play a game for the Magic; he’d get waived to lessen the cap stress.
In other Magic news, the Cavs have offered Anderson Varejao for Frye, so Frye could be on the move either way.
The Rockets are looking to deal Ty Lawson. He could possibly end up with the Jazz, who have Trey Burke on the table.
