The Miami Heat and the Detroit Pistons do battle tonight at The Palace.
The Heat have won four of their last six games and are coming off a dominant 118-96 win over the Magic. Luol Deng led the team in scoring with 20 points, Goran Dragic added 19 points while Hassan Whiteside had 18 points with 15 rebounds as the Heat blew away the Magic by 62-47 in the second half to improve to 47-33 on the season which is currently good for fourth place in the very congested Eastern Conference standings. The Heat have been in fine form lately and they'll want to continue their strong play as a couple of losses could see them fall to as low as sixth place and a couple of wins could see the steal the third spot come playoff time.
Meanwhile, the Pistons have won nine of their last 12 games and they'll be looking for a third straight win after taking down the Wizards by 112-99 on Friday. Reggie Jackson led the charge with 39 points on 14 of 20 shooting, Tobias Harris added 17 points while Kentavious Caldwell-Pope chipped in with 14 points as the Pistons rallied in a 26-15 fourth quarter to pull away from the Wizards and improve to 43-37 on the season which is currently good for seventh place in the Eastern Conference standings.
In ATS trends, the Heat are 10-4 ATS in their last 14 games following a win of more than 10 points and 0-5 ATS in their last five road games, while the Pistons are 31-15-2 ATS in their last 48 home games and 18-7-1 ATS in their last 26 home games against a team with a losing road record.
Head to head, the home team is 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings and the favorite is 5-2 ATS in the last seven meetings.
There is so much on the line in terms of playoff implications for both teams so we should expect a battle tonight. These two teams last met on Apr 5 and it was the Heat who won by 107-89 behind 22 points from Dragic and while I'm expecting a closer game, I'm once again taking the Heat to pull away late and come out with the important win tonight.
