The Miami Heat and the Charlotte Hornets meet for Game 4 tonight at the Time Warner Cable Arena.
The Heat were aiming to take a commanding 3-0 lead after dominating the first two games of the series at home, but they just couldn't get it going in Game 3 and fell to the Hornets by 96-80. Luol Deng led the team with 19 points, Dwyane Wade added 17 points while Hassan Whiteside chipped in with 13 points and 18 rebounds but the Heat let the game slip in the pivotal third quarter as they allowed the Hornets to outscore them by 26-14. Goran Dragic had just 11 points on four of 13 shooting after scoring 18 points in Game 2 while Josh Richardson had a great game of 15 points in Game 2 but he finished with just two points in Game 3 so look for those two players to bounce back tonight.

Meanwhile, the Hornets were desperate for their first playoff win in 14 years and it showed in Game 3 as the Hornets were clearly the team playing with a better sense of urgency. Jeremy Lin needed to step up for the Hornets in the absence of Nicolas Batum and he did with a team-high 18 points off the bench and he had plenty of support as Kemba Walker added 17 points with seven assists, Frank Kaminsky III added 15 points while Marvin Williams and Cody Zeller chipped in with 12 points but this win was mostly about defense as the Hornets held the Heat to just 34.2 percent shooting which is worlds apart from the 57.6 percent they allowed the Heat to shoot in Game 1 of the series.
In ATS trends, the Heat are 6-0 ATS in their last six games following a loss of more than 10 points and 1-7 ATS in their last eight road games, while the Hornets are 2-8 ATS in their last 10 Conference Quarterfinals games and 1-5 ATS in their last six games following a win.
Head to head, the Heat are 8-3 ATS in the last 11 meetings in Charlotte and the home team is 5-2 ATS in the last seven meetings overall.
The Hornets really needed to make a stand in this series and they did that in Game 3, but the Heat are an experienced playoff team and I expect them to bounce back in a tightly contested game tonight. Take Miami with the points in a minor road upset.
