The Line: Chicago Sky -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
The New York Liberty and Chicago Sky play a preseason game Sunday afternoon at the Bob Carpenter Center.
The New York Liberty enter this season with their top-eight scorers from last year in place, as coach Bill Laimbeer is working with a monster. The Liberty are a great defensive team, experienced and are hungry to reach their first WNBA Finals since the 2002 season. New York will once again be led by Tina Charles, Sugar Rodgers and Epiphanny Prince, a trio as good as any in the East. Also, Kiah Stokes is going to be even better with a full season under her belt. The New York Liberty have enough talent on their roster to be crowned as the best team in the Eastern Conference, but it all starts with putting in the work during the preseason.
USA TODAY Sports
The Chicago Sky return their entire roster from a team that made the conference semifinals. That includes the WNBA MVP in Elena Delle Donne, Sixth Woman of the Year in Allie Quigley and one of the three WNBA Peak Performances in Courtney Vandersloot. The Sky are loaded on the offensive side of the ball, which includes four players who made at least 24 threes and two players who shot above 50 percent from the field. The Sky have all the talent to make the WNBA Finals for a second time in three years, it simply comes down to getting enough stops on the defensive end. The Chicago Sky have allowed 86 or more points in three of their last four games, numbers that aren’t going to get it done if playoff success is the goal this season.
The Chicago Sky have the offense to give the Liberty issues, as New York is mainly a defensive team that can go through scoring droughts at times. And while this is a preseason game, it is being played in Delaware, a place where the Chicago Sky are comfortable, especially Elena Delle Donne, who became a star for the University of Delaware and made her name on this very court.
While the Liberty are good and will make us a lot of money this season, the Chicago Sky should take care of business here.
