American Airlines Arena and the Miami Heat take the hardwood with the Minnesota Timberwolves Saturday night.
The Miami Heat had everything going their way in Tuesday night’s 106-95 victory at Washington. The Heat won this with a 36-22 opening period with the rest of the game about even. Miami didn’t miss often at 55% accuracy while the Wizards couldn’t buy a basket at times at 33% from the field. The Wizards managed to stay halfway close with eleven more looks at the basket and eight more makes at the line. Hassan Whiteside poured in a game high 20 points and hauled in a game best 13 rebounds on 9-12. Justin Winslow and Dion Walters netted 12 points apiece on a combined 11-18 from the field while Luke Babbitt tossed in 14 points on 7-14 accuracy.

The Minnesota Timberwolves were a non factor last season and they have high hopes that the young talent on the roster will help turn things around. It’s obvious the Timberwolves will not turn things around in one season but the hope is that improvements over the next few years will lead to a postseason berth and beyond. The Timberwolves are certainly depending on first round picks Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins to be the foundations to build around. Ricky Rubio and former Providence star Kris Dunn are also expected to be prominent pieces of a turnaround. There are plenty of players that showed potential in the summer league but we need to see everyone playing together over an extended period of time.
The Timberwolves are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 road games and are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall while the Timberwolves are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 Saturday games. The Heat are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 Saturday games and the under is 4-1 in Heat last 5 home games while the Heat are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games playing on 3 or more days rest. The under is 8-2 in the last 10 meetings and the Timberwolves are 3-9 ATS in the last 12 meetings.
The Timberwolves are trying to turn things around but are generally young and will likely go through some growing pains. With Dwayne Wade gone I’m interested in who can step in and assume leadership. No line is out yet so please check back…
