The San Antonio Spurs square off with the Orlando Magic at the Amway Center on Wednesday.
It seems that the name of the game for the San Antonio Spurs is defense and it doesn’t matter that we are in the preseason. Defense was the key in Monday’s 86-81 victory versus Detroit. A 25-11 second period gave the SAS a lead they never gave up with both squads sinking shots in the 41% range. San Antonio won with better shooting from down town and at the charity stripe. Kawhi Leonard poured in a game high 20 points and snagged eight boards on 7-11 shooting to lead the Spurs with Pau Gasol next in line with eleven points. LaMarcus Aldridge and David Lee netted ten points apiece and combined for 14 rebounds.

The Orlando Magic last played a week ago so they are either well rested with fresh legs or rusty with fresh legs. I don’t know what kind of legs the Magic had in a 117-102 loss to defending NBA champion Cleveland who were up 26 points heading to the locker room and then cruising the rest of the way. Orlando wasn’t completely awful at 44% from the floor but the Cavaliers connected at 53% for nine more baskets. Jeff Green was high scorer for Orlando with 19 points on 6-12 accuracy followed by Mario Hezonja with 17 points on 6-14 including three bombs. Evan Fournier was the Magic’s only other double digit scorer with 14 points but scoring wasn’t really the issue.
The Spurs are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games playing on 1 days rest and the Spurs are 10-2 ATS in their last 12 Wednesday games while the under is 5-1-1 in Spurs last 7 Wednesday games. The Magic are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 home games and the over is 6-1 in Magic last 7 overall while going 4-1 in Magic last 5 home games. The Spurs are 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings in Orlando and the Spurs are 1-4 ATS in the last 5 meetings while the over is 12-5 in the last 17 meetings in Orlando.
