The Dallas Mavericks and the Indiana Pacers do battle at Bankers Life Fieldhouse on Wednesday night.
The Mavericks finished the regular season with a record of 42-40 which was good for the sixth seed in the Western Conference standings, but it didn’t count for anything as they fell to the Thunder by 4-1 in the first round. However, Dallas made plenty of moves in the offseason and they were able to acquire the services of Harrison Barnes and Andrew Bogut to provide support for Dirk Nowitzki and the Mavs’ aging backcourt.

Meanwhile, the Pacers finished the regular season with a respectable 45-37 record which was good for seventh place in the Eastern Conference, but they fell to the second-seeded Raptors in Game 7 of the first round of the playoffs. The Pacers look to be heading in a different direction as they let go of coach Frank Vogel and signed Jeff Teague, Thaddeus Young and Al Jefferson, but the team’s success remains heavily on Paul George’s shoulders who was quoted to have that NBA MVP award as his personal goal for the season.
In ATS trends, the Mavs are 10-3 ATS in their last 13 road games and 6-2-1 ATS in their last nine against the NBA Central, while the Pacers are 5-1 ATS in their last six home games and 10-21 ATS in their last 31 games against Western Conference opponents.
Head to head, the Mavs are 0-4 ATS in the last four meetings overall and 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings in Indiana.
The Mavs desperately needed a face-lift in the offseason and they were able to do that with some underrated signings, but I think the Pacers will have a better season after some initial growing pains. As for this game, the Pacers won both meetings against the Mavs last season and should be good enough to kick off their season with a win at home.
