The Utah Jazz invade the Staples Center to battle the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday afternoon.
The Jazz were looking to bounce back after losing their season opener and they were able to do that by beating the Lakers 96-89 on Friday night. George Hill led from the front with a game-high 23 points on seven of 14 shooting, Rodney Hood and Derrick Favors added 15 points apiece while Rudy Gobert chipped in with 13 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks as the Jazz took down the Lakers despite shooting just 41.3 percent from the field. You should credit the Jazz's defense as they held the Lakers to just 38.1 percent shooting, but you also have to look at the team's production from the charity stripe where they connected on 28 of 40 free throw attempts. Gordon Hayward was seen going through workouts in the pre-game shootaround, but he remains without a timetable for his return.

Meanwhile, the Clippers will be looking to build on their road win over the Trailblazers on Thursday night. Blake Griffin and Chris Paul led the Clippers with 27 points apiece while Marreese Speights and Jamal Crawford chipped in with 15 points each, but this win was all about the Clippers' defense as they made a concious effort to close out hard to every three-point shooter and it paid dividends as the Blazers connected on just four of 18 attempts from behind the arc. it certainly wasn't the most clinical of wins but in a physical game that involved two technical fouls and two flagrant fouls, the Clippers will be delighted that they were good enough to escape with the win, especially since they shot just 40 percent from the field as a team.
In ATS trends, the Jazz are 4-0 ATS in their last four Sunday games but 0-4 ATS in their last four against the Western Conference, while the Clippers are 5-1 ATS in their last six home games and 11-5 ATS in their last 16 games against the Western Conference.
Head to head, the Jazz are 23-11-1 ATS in the last 35 meetings overall and 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings in Los Angeles.
The Clippers kicked their season off with a solid win and I like their chances to improve to 2-0, but the Jazz were very good on the defensive end in their last outing and while I'm taking the Clippers to win, I'm going with the Jazz to keep it close and earn the cover as they've fared well ATS when playing the Clippers.
