TD Garden and the Boston Celtics kickoff the NBA preseason with a visit from the Charlotte Hornets on Monday.
The Charlotte Hornets had high expectations a season ago but struggled at both ends of the floor at times. The Hornets finished at 36-46 with 105 points on just over 44% shooting with both numbers needing to improve. The Charlotte defense allowed just under 105 points to rank 13th so neither end of the floor stood out.

Guard Kemba Walker is the face of the Hornets at 23 points and over five rebounds with fellow guard Nicolas Batum brings back 15 point, six rebounds and six assists. Charlotte is looking to get more from Frank Kaminsky then 11+ points with some experience under his belt while center Cody Zeller looks to stay healthy and improve on his ten point, 6.5 rebounds in 60 games.
The Hornets are hoping the Dwight Howard signing gives the team a bigger force in the paint while draft pick Malik Monk is already labeled as a consistent scorer. Michael Carter-Williams should supply offense if healthy and the point by committee Hornets have plenty of potential to improve on last season’s sub .500 performance.
The Boston Celtics finished atop the Atlantic conference in 2016-17 with a 53-29 record that was two games ahead of the Toronto Raptors. The Celtics were number seven in scoring at 108 and #15 defensively with just over 105 points allowed. The Celtics were ousted by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference finals and surprisingly made wholesale changes despite tremendous success.
One of the top scorers in the game in Isaiah Thomas is no longer a Celtic and takes 29 points and six assists with him while second leading scorer Avery Bradley and #4 Jae Crowder are the most significant departures. Al Horford (14 ppg-6.8 rpg-5 apg) and Marcus Smart (10.6 ppg) are two of the four players still remaining on the roster. The Celtics restocked well with Kyrie Irving, Gordon Hayward and Marcus Morris coming in but head coach Brad Stevens has to get this roster to mesh.
Hornets are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games overall and the under is 6-1 in Hornets last 7 Monday games while the over is 10-2 in Hornets last 12 overall. The over is 9-1-1 in Celtics last 11 home games and the under is 9-4-3 in Celtics last 16 Monday games while the Celtics are 11-5 ATS in their last 16 games overall. Hornets are 0-4 ATS in the last 4 meetings.
