The Atlanta Hawks and Cleveland Cavaliers meet Wednesday in NBA preseason action at the Quicken Loans Arena.
The Atlanta Hawks are coming off a 96-90 loss to the Miami Heat and play back-to-back road preseason games. In the loss, the Hawks shot just 36.5 percent from the field and had 16 turnovers. Dewayne Dedmon led the Hawks with 12 points and three rebounds while Dennis Schroder had 12 points and five assists. Marco Belinelli was the third double-digit scorer and rookie John Collins grabbed 15 rebounds in 20 minutes. The Hawks got decent production out of players who will need to step up this season, but it’s tough to win games when shooting under 40 percent from the field and fouling 25 times. The rebounding ability of Collins has to really excite his coaching staff, as he has the potential to be a real game changer. The Atlanta Hawks must shoot better from the outside if they’re going to be better this season than most people expect.

The Cleveland Cavaliers play their first preseason game of the year and will unleash a roster with a lot of new faces. Derrick Rose, Dwyane Wade and Jae Crowder are expected to be starters this season, which means LeBron James and Kevin Love are the only returning staters from last year. It’s going to take time to gel and the Cavs can’t afford anymore injuries with Isaiah Thomas already out for the next few months, but Cleveland has a chance to be exciting if things can come together. Kay Felder is a player who could earn minutes early in the regular season if he hits the ground running. The Cleveland Cavaliers have a real aging roster overall, so it’s going to be interesting to see how much Tyronn Lue pushes these guys in exhibition play.
The under is 13-3 in Hawks last 16 Wednesday games and 12-4-1 in Hawks last 17 road games. The Cavaliers are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 home games and the over is 40-19-1 in Cavaliers last 60 overall. The Hawks are 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings and the over is 21-8 in the last 29 meetings.
This is a lot of point to lay in a preseason game, especially when the Cavs know what they have and are just focused on knocking off rust and not getting anybody hurt. However, the Hawks are a bad basketball team, and at home, you know the Cavs want to put on a show for the home fans with this new roster they have. I'll take the Cavs in a double-digit victory as more of a fade from the Hawks.
